Que sera, sera!

I have been asked many times today about Ruth’s name and where I got it from. The story goes as follows – I have been convinced this whole pregnancy that I was having a boy up until about two or three weeks ago when I had the most vivid dream I have ever experienced. In my dream I delivered the baby, only to discover that it was a girl (which was a huge surprise). I was holding the baby and talking to it saying: “You’re a girl! What in the world am I going to call you?” at which point, to my astonishment, she responded: “Is Ruth a name?” after a moment of stunned silence I was able to reply: “Yes…” to which she said: “Then maybe you should call me that.” As the dream progressed I remember thinking about several things. I thought about what a good name Ruth was, though old fashion. (Many bible references went through my head at this point as well.) How I wasn’t sure I liked the name, but couldn’t change it after what had happened and I finally came to the conclusion that Ruth would be fine and I would simply call her Ruthie.

So, Ruth it is. What caused the dream I do not know, but I feel as though she was tired of me thinking of her as a boy and decided let me know I was wrong and name herself at the same time. I have had a list of names sitting by my bed ever since I got pregnant and that name was never on the list or even considered for the list. Most of the time I feel like I truly don’t have very much control over my life. Many times I am led to believe I do, but when all is said and done, I think a very large percentage of my life has been planed for me and I have simply been led in the right direction. I am very grateful for that, although it has taken me a long time to accept that and just go with what happens, knowing it will all work out for the best in the end. As the words of a great Doris Day song say: “Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be. The futures not ours to see. Que sera, sera!”

Family Vacation (Feb. 12-15 '09)

So, realizing that we wouldn't get a chance to take a vacation this year with the baby coming this summer, we decided spur of the moment to take one this weekend! Here are the pictures from Friday at Disneyland (and yes, I was there, I just happened to be taking all the pictures)
























We got to the park about 9am, because the bus never showed up and we had to walk. (That was fun! Luckily our motel was just around the corner on Ball Rd.) In about four hours we were able to go on almost every ride! It was awesome!! Because I’m pregnant, we knew I would not make it walking all day, so we got a wheel chair and got right in for most of the rides (definitely the way to see Disneyland!). I think the longest we ever waited in line was about 15min (amazing!!!!). Caleb and Angie even got to go on a few of the fast rides with very little wait because the park was not very crowded. They went on the Matterhorn and Splash Mountain (this has got to be one of the funniest pictures ever!)



At about 2pm it started raining and rained until about 6pm. Luckily we knew about the rain and brought an umbrella. We spent that time watching all the shows. Once the rain had stopped and we realized we had seen almost everything in the park, we decided to walk over to California Adventure and play until they closed. The park was totally empty, so we could ride as many times as we wanted. It was awesome!!! We saw “Muppets 3D” and “It’s tough to be a bug” and went on the “Monsters Inc.” ride, “Heimlich’s Chew, Chew Train” (twice) Angie and Caleb went on “Flicks Flyers” (twice). Caleb then ran ahead of us and went on “Tower of Terror” (again, no waiting, so why not!) We left the park at 9pm when they closed and got to watch a little bit of the fireworks at Disneyland as we were heading back to our motel. So, even with rain we had an amazing time and we ended up spending very little because arranged everything online before we left (which was great!)

Saturday we drove to LA and went to the Farmers Market there and it was amazing! I have never seen so many interesting things all in one place. We ate dinner at Joe’s Crab Shack (per Caleb’s request) and had delicious coconut shrimp (I hate shrimp, but Joe’s is darn good!). All in all it was a fantastic vacation!!!
